Getting around Vancouver
Route 1, the Trans-Canada Highway, runs through the city. With a car rental in Vancouver you can go anywhere; take Route 1 east through the mountains towards Calgary (10 hours away), or take it north on Highway 99 into the mountains along the coast. It's an hour's drive from Vancouver to Squamish, then another hour to Whistler. Both towns offer activities including hiking and kayaking. To get to Vancouver Island, head west out of Vancouver, and take the car ferry from Tsawwassen, or you can get a ferry from Horseshoe Bay to Langdale to head west along the broken mainland towards Powell River.
Getting around Vancouver is easy. Other drivers are very relaxed and considerate and the roads are wide and easy to navigate. There is plenty of cheap and convenient parking all over the city so you won't have to worry about finding a space. Congestion is minimal for a city of its size but avoid travelling at rush hour if you can.
