Rent a car: Marrakech and its sites

This bustling shoppers’ paradise sells everything from spices, perfumes and leather goods to wooden handicrafts and footwear.
- Djemma El Fna:
Located right at the entrance of the Medina, Djemaa El Fna is an ideal place for people watching, eating and enjoying live entertainment. Get a taste of the vibrant Moroccan culture by visiting the traditional stalls and enjoying live performances by the storytellers, snake charmers and musicians. You can even take a sneak peek into your future by a Moroccan fortune teller.
- Koutoubia Mosque:
Drive your rental car to Marrakech’s most famous landmark, the Koutoubia Mosque. The 70 metre tall minaret was erected in 1162 and is one of the finest examples of Almohad architecture.
- Bahia Palace:
Drive to this beautiful 19th century palace. The opulent interiors are contributed by the beautifully painted ceilings, dazzling zellige tiles and ornate wrought-iron decorations.
If you are on a long term Marrakech holiday, make an excursion to Imlil. This beautiful mountain hamlet away from the hustles and bustles of Marrakesh is also the starting point for Toubkal National Park excursions.
Each year in June or July, Marrakech hosts the two-week long Festival National des Arts Populaires celebrating folk dance and music. For film lovers, November or early December is the time to visit when the Marrakesh Film Festival is held.
Getting around by car in Marrakech
In Marrakech traffic travels on the right. The speed limit is 60km/h in the towns, 100km/h on the outskirts and 120km/h on the motorways. Compared to other cities of Morocco, the number of police manning the roads here is greater and so is the number of speed traps. Driving in Marrakech is not for the faint hearted given the unruliness of the drivers and the lack of signposts. Horn blowing is much more common as traffic seems to pour in from every direction and at different speeds. For parking there are several covered enclosures with many having night guards.
